At the time of buying your Sony PSP it may be wise to invest a little money in getting yourself a good quality memory, especially if you are going to be playing large numbers of games on yours. Look for ones like the Pro Duo Card which comes with a very large memory base and is also suitable for using with the Sony PSP.
Next when it comes to actually downloading any games for your PSP on to your PC it is important that you check they are in the correct format. If not then you will find that not only the downloading but installation process will be affected and you will find that you will have to actually download the game again. Therefore it is important that you know what version of firmware (the operating system installed on your PSP) and choose the games that are compatible with that.
Secondly you need to make sure that the file you have chosen to download ends in "PSP". Often you will find that most games on a lot of sites where you can download them from have shared them with other platforms. So only those that PSP on the end are actually compatible with the Sony PSP.
If you are choosing to download games for your PSP on to your PC you will need to get a compression application program, because the fast majority of files held but download websites have been compressed. This is so that they are able to free up more space for them to then provide even more files for their users to select from. For people with PC's that run Windows, WinZip is the ideal compression application whilst those people who own Mac's are better off using a program such as Expander.
Often once a file has been decompressed you will find it then contains 2 files. One of these files actually contains the game whilst the other is known as the "read me" file and which will have been supplied by the author of the game you are going to be playing.
But in order for you to actually get the games you have downloaded off of your PC and on to your PSP you need to connect the two together. There are two ways in which the games can be transferred from the PC to the PSP. You can either connect the two together using a USB cable which connects into a USB port on your PC and the USB port on the PSP. Or you can use a memory, which you transfer the files held on to your PC and then plug this into PSP and then move them from the memory stick on to it. But using the cable method you will need to press the home button on your PSP and then go into settings.
In the settings menu you now need to go down to "USB Connection" and then press the "X" button which will then allow the memory stick inside the PSP to connect with your PC. As soon as the connection has been made you can then start to transfer the games from one to the other, but remember to put the files you are transferring into the right folder on the memory stick. So whether you are transferring PSP game downloads or other kinds of PSP downloads if not placed in the correct folder you will find that they will not work properly.
